ASBESTOS – THE SILENT KILLER
Asbestos exposure is the main cause of construction workplace fatalities in New Zealand. Asbestos was commonly used as an insulator for buildings from the 1940s through to the 1990s, so anyone who is involved in alterations of buildings built during this period should be on the lookout.

10 February 2014 – Self-awareness Tool workshop
A lunchtime workshop was held for signatories to help them understand more about the newly released self-awareness tool, how to complete it and to answer any questions. Hosted by the Safety Charter’s Performance Working Group.
11-27 February 2014 – CTU meetings on the Safety Charter
Workers, contractors and sub-contractors were encouraged to attend one of a series of Council of Trade Unions (CTU) meeting on the Safety Charter. The meetings were held so the CTU could consult with construction workers before it signed the Safety Charter.
